For an American, guns are more than just weapons used in self-defense. They are a source of pride, a reason to show off in front of one's mates It is pretty common for a person to own anything in vicinity of 60-120 VARIOUS WEAPONS, but could this trend be also a sign of deep seated social paranoia rooted in WWII also, deep-seated racial issues and Hollywood's (entertainment industry's) desensitizing of the public towards violence in general?
No government can fully solve or prevent people turning vile at each other, especially those that have become unhinged or, suffer a mental episode of some kind Such a person can simply use anything else at hand; knives, exes, machetes
Gun control can not prevent that
That being said, I don't see any reason or, justification for anyone to protest against gun control over semi automated rifles, unless you are preparing for a civil war
