More you pay for the gas, less you will use your vehicles. That's the idea behind this move. So called 'Holiday Tax' is put there to appease you for a short while. After that, the tax will probably go even higher to compensate for the 'Holiday' losses.:D

IMHO, gas taxes should not finance the maintenance of the roads and infrastructure because, everyone needs transport and the freedom of owning a vehicle. It is our "income tax" that should pay for that.

What they plan for us by 2030 or, earlier:

"Smart cities" which are supposed to eliminate the problem of CO2 emissions by the transport sector, once and for all. All your needs will be met at a walking distances of your accommodation, which will be government owned. This is the future they have in store for us; clean earth but no freedom of decision making of any meaningful kind. We'll eat the synthetically made foods (like in sci-fi movies), have nanobots in our bloodstream, and be connected to a supreme AI, who will be made out of all of our collective thoughts and will be a global government. (yes, a chip in your brain and a fully copied DNA of all population) Bots will enhance your physical appearance to a near perfection, prolong your life and eliminate all diseases. That's if you can believe that.

You will work and be evaluated by a system of merits (China is already using such system on their population). More coupons you accumulate, more rewards in store for you. Money will be replaced by a block chain system (no cryptocurrency, gold, silver or other) and will be owned by the government, not you. ("You will be poor and be happy"??)

That's where they want you, in a vulnerable state of continuous dependency upon their (or, AI's) good will.

Gas tax is only 'a means to an end' of everything you know and hold dear to your heart. Sad future that would be:D:D

" 2022 Gasoline Tax Holidays

Following the sharp increase in gasoline prices after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, four U.S. states—Connecticut, Georgia, New York, Florida, and Maryland—temporarily suspended their state gas taxes in 2022. Connecticut suspended its gas tax from April 1 through June 30.10 Georgia suspended its gas tax on March 18 and has since extended the suspension until July 14.11 New York suspended its motor fuel taxes from June 1 until Dec. 31.12 Maryland suspended its gas tax from March 18 to April 16; motorists in that state faced a gas tax increase of 6.6 cents per gallon from July 1 as a result of legislation tying the tax to the national inflation rate.13

Other states, including New Jersey, Ohio, and West Virginia have considered a gas tax holiday without adopting one as of June 2022.

In California, the legislature had not acted as of June on Governor Gavin Newsom's proposal to provide $400 debit cards to auto owners to ease the effect of higher gas prices.14 Meanwhile, the state's gas tax, the nation's highest, was scheduled to increase by 2.8 cents per gallon on July 1 under a schedule of incremental increases adopted in 2017.

In calling on Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for three months through September 2022, U.S. President Joseph Biden urged states and local jurisdictions to provide relief on gas taxes as well.7 Economists critical of the strategy have argued that lowering gas taxes even temporarily increases the demand for a commodity, raising its market price assuming steady supply."

Many governments are putting a 'tax' on top of a 'tax' IOW,
This is to fill up the budget after they were so generously giving out our money all over the place:D

" They are increasingly failing to cover infrastructure costs
By Tom Barkley

Gas taxes are excise taxes that you pay when you fill up your car with gas. The federal government and all 50 U.S. states impose gas taxes, with much of the revenue raised going toward fixing highways and other infrastructure projects.1 State gas taxes range from just under 9 cents per gallon in Alaska to nearly 59 cents per gallon in California, though some states charge based on the amount spent rather than the volume of fuel purchased.2

Key Takeaways

Federal and state governments levy gas taxes to help pay for road infrastructure projects.
The average state gas tax is about 31 cents a gallon, though they range from less than 9 cents to nearly 59 cents a gallon.
Gas taxes have not kept pace with road maintenance costs, leading some states to legislate increases tied to inflation and many to adopt variable rates.

Current Problems

Unfortunately, the revenue raised from gas taxes has failed to keep up with rising infrastructure costs and inflation. The development of electric vehicles and increased fuel efficiency of all autos has reduced gas demand relative to vehicle miles traveled, further widening the gap between the gas tax funds raised and road maintenance costs.5

While the federal gas tax has been stuck at 18.4 cents a gallon since 1993, the increasing squeeze on transportation budgets has led many states to raise the gas tax in recent years.67 Thirty-six states have done so since 2010.

More states are also changing how their motor fuel excise taxes work to try to keep up with rising gas prices and inflation. Nearly half of the states now have variable-rate gas taxes, using formulas linked to everything from the price of gas and the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to fuel efficiency and population growth.8 For example, Indiana links its gas tax rate to the rates of inflation and personal income growth.9

Most states assess a variety of taxes and fees on top of the gas tax, including environmental, underground storage, and inspection fees.2

Other types of fuel are taxed as well, including diesel, ethanol, aviation fuel, and alternatives including natural gas."

Wake up people, CO2 is NOT causing any climatic changes but technology is

70 years of cloud seeding, cloud pushing, creating of weather systems and braking of normal weather patterns is

You and I, or industrial revolution is NOT causing any of it
Its a false hype, Therefore, there is no need for any government to press for going green in such an "irresponsible" way as they are, and for creating unnecessary economic havoc worldwide, unless you are using it to meet another agenda, NWO:D Look into who is really behind this push for going green;)
